What should you never share during KYC verification?

Documents a KYC check normally needs, what you should never hand over, and how to send files safely.

Licensed sites may be required to verify your identity before a withdrawal. That is a legitimate process, but the same process can be used as cover for fraud attempts. Knowing what is normal and what is dangerous protects both your account and your identity.

Documents a KYC check normally asks for

  • Photo ID (ID card, passport or driving licence), front and, if needed, back
  • Proof of address: a utility bill or bank statement from the last 3 months (address and date visible; transactions can be covered)
  • Proof you own the payment method: the front of your card (only the first 6 and last 4 digits visible), an e-wallet account screen
  • Sometimes a selfie holding your ID, or a live video check
  • For larger amounts, proof of source of funds may be requested; you can ask for the reason in writing

What you should never share

  • If you are asked to install a remote-access (screen sharing) app, stop.
  • If you are asked to pay an “upfront fee” or “tax” to complete verification, ask for the reason in writing; this is a common fraud pattern.
  • Do not send documents through channels outside the official site or app (personal messaging accounts, social media).
  • Never attach a fully visible copy of your ID to a public complaint text.

Steps to send documents safely

  1. Verify the channel

Upload documents only through the site's own account area or its official support email. Compare the address with the site's contact page.

  2. Cover what is not needed

Mask the middle digits on card images and transaction lines on bank statements. Cover fields on your ID that were not requested.

  3. Add a watermark

Adding “For [site name] verification only, [date]” to the image makes reuse elsewhere harder.

  4. Keep a record

Note which document you sent, on which date and through which channel; screenshot the submission confirmation.

  5. Ask for a timeframe

Ask in writing how long verification will take. If documents are rejected repeatedly, record each reason.

Example message: clarifying a document request

Template: Written question about a KYC request
Hello,

On [date] identity verification documents were requested for my account. On [date] I sent the following through my account area: [list of documents].

Please confirm in writing:
1. Is any document missing or not accepted? If so, why?
2. What is the expected time for verification?
3. If another document is needed, which rule is it requested under?

Thank you,
[Your username]

If verification never ends: what to write in a complaint

  • List the dates documents were requested and sent, in order.
  • Quote the reason given for each rejection or new request.
  • Upload the documents themselves to BetSicil's evidence area, not the public text, and set access to “moderation only” or “share with brand”.
  • Do not put your national ID number, address or date of birth in the public text; moderation removes such details before publishing.
